Accountability: Our integrated coal handling infrastructure – mine-rail-port

Open-pit mining is a meticulously planned operation. It starts with the cleaning of the surface and is followed by the careful removal of the topsoil layer, which is then stored for future rehabilitation of expended pits. This rehabilitation process, which started over 25 years ago, continues today: to date, 3,674 hectares - equivalent to 96% of the concession where operations are now complete - have been planted with 1.6 million native trees.

One of the main impacts of mining activity is the generation of particulate matter, or dust: we implement an array of control strategies throughout the coal chain and operate an early warning detection system for forecasting climatic conditions which may affect dust levels.
